Google Play Pass launches $30 annual subscription, expands to 9 new countries

Google Play Pass launched last year as a subscription service that let you pay one monthly fee to get access to more than 300 Android apps and games with no ads or in-app purchases. Since its launch, Play Pass has only been available in the US, but that's changing today.

Google Play Pass is expanding to nine more countries this week. They are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Also launching this week is a new yearly subscription option. Previously, the only way to subscribe to Play Pass was to pay $4.99 per month, but starting this week in the US, you'll have the option of paying $29.99 per year.

Existing Play Pass subscribers can upgrade to a yearly subscription by opening the Play Store, going to the Play Pass tab, and scrolling down to "Upgrade to a yearly subscription".

With the monthly rate, you'd end up paying $59.88 for a year of Google Play Pass, so this new annual subscription is a pretty great deal for anyone interested in the service.

Finally, Google confirmed today that it's added more than 150 new titles to Play Pass over the past few months. Those include things like Sonic the Hedgehog, Golf Peaks, Teslagrad, Forgotten Anne, and Sally's Law.

A premium app subscription service like Google Play Pass isn't for everyone, because some folks just don't do a lot of gaming on their phones while other people don't really care about in-app ads for purchases. But for those folks who do a lot of mobile gaming, services like Play Pass can be great because you get access to hundreds of premium apps for one flat rate and without ads or in-app purchases. And with its new annual subscription rate, Google Play Pass could be a great option for anyone who plays a lot of Android games.
