Snapchat today announced a new update that tweaks the UI a bit and brings some new features.
The new Action Bar in Snapchat adds a bottom navigation bar to the app with shortcuts to 5 different spaces: Snap Map, Chat, Camera, Stories, and Discovver. This new UI places more of a focus on the Snap Map and makes it easier to find for folks who may not know everything about the app. Currently, you can access the Snap Map by swiping down on the Camera.
Speaking of the Snap Map, it's gaining a new Places feature that includes listings for millions of businesses around the world. A place's profile will include the location, address, hours of operation, and reviews from TripAdvisor and Foursquare. Plus, you'll also be able to order food soon through Postmates, DoorDash, and Uber Eats.
This new Places feature is rolling out today on both Android and iOS.
Another new Snapchat feature is Topics. You can already share your Snaps to the Our Story feature, letting people know what's going on around the world. With Topics, you can add a Topic sticker or share your Snap to the specific Community Topic to help people who care about that same specific topic more easily find your Snap. Example Topics include "Life Hacks" or "Oddly Satisfying".
Lastly, there's Story Replies. This allows you to easily reply to a Snap Star that you're following, and they can then turn your Story Replies into stickers that can be added to their own Stories during things like Q&A Sessions.
