There have been a lot of big tech events canceled due to the coronavirus this year, including Google I/O and MWC. One major event that is planning to go on as scheduled, though, is CES 2021.

CTA, the entity behind CES, announced today that it's planning on hosting an in-person CES 2021 event in Las Vegas. The show is scheduled to happen from January 6-9. And while it will be an in-person show, the CTA says that it's taking extra steps to try and keep attendees safe and healthy.

Those steps include regularly cleaning and sanitizing spaces as well as providing sanitization stations throughout the venue, enabling social distancing by widening aisles, and issuing best practices for attendees such as wearing masks and avoiding shaking hands. The CTA also plans to limit touch points using cashless systems, evaluating solutions for contactless thermal scans, and providing enhanced on-site access for health services and medical aid.

Because CES 2021 is still half a year out, the CTA adds that it will be assessing the situation with the coronavirus in the coming months and adapting its best practices in response.

"For CES 2021, we will highlight technologies that help provide solutions for some of the day-to-day challenges created by the pandemic," the CTA explained. "We are encouraged that the collaboration of technology and medicine will create innovative solutions and save lives. And we believe events such as CES that bring thought leaders and innovators together to solve these challenges will be more important than ever."

CES is one of the biggest tech shows every year. For example, CES 2019 was attended by 4,400 exhibiting companies and had 175,000 total attendees. While CES 2021 is still several months out, many people and companies may still choose not to attend due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the risk of catching the virus, even with the CTA's heightened cleaning steps.
