One week after Apple pushed an update to its AirPods Pro, the regular AirPods have started getting the same update.
The second generation AirPods are now being updated to firmware version 2D15. MacRumors notes that this update bumps them up from the previous firmware of 2A364.
Apple hasn't said exactly what's changed with this AirPods update, but there was a bug floating around that affected some customers who got a replacement AirPod with unreleased firmware 2D3. This update should make them usable again with existing AirPods.
If you've got second gen AirPods, you can try to pull the update by activating the AirPods with audio, putting them in their case, and then plugging them into a power source. To see what firmware your AirPods are currently on, connect them to your iOS device and go into Settings > General > About > AirPods.
The AirPods Pro are in the news today, too, but for a different reason. Amazon is running a sale on the AirPods Pro, so if you've been interested in these noise cancelling earbuds, now may be a good time to pull the trigger.
