After weeks of teases and leaks, the LG Velvet has gotten its official introduction.
LG has said that the Velvet is the start of a new product roadmap where the company moves away from alphanumeric designations into more expressive names. With the Velvet, LG is focusing on the phone's smoothness in your hand, both with its front and rear glass and the 3D Arc Design that symmetrically curves the edges of the front and back, giving the Velvet a more natural feel in your hands.
Another highlight of the LG Velvet is its Raindrop rear camera array. The cameras are arranged vertically, with the main 48MP camera being the biggest and protruding from the back of the phone. There's also an 8MP wide angle camera and 5MP depth camera that are smaller and sit under the back glass.
Around front is a 6.8-inch 2460x1080 OLED screen with 20.5:9 aspect ratio. It's got a 16MP selfie camera inside a waterdrop notch at the top of that display. On the bottom of the phone is a USB-C port for charging and 3.5mm headphone jack, and the whole device features IP68 water and dust resistance.
LG has opted for a Snapdragon 765 inside the Velvet, which means 5G support is there. Also packed inside the phone is 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, and a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 2TB. A 4300mAh battery is powering the Velvet, and wireless charging support is included as well.
As with some of LG's other recent devices, the Velvet will support a Dual Screen case that'll give you a second display for better multitasking. The LG Velvet will also support Wacom styluses.
LG will launch the Velvet in South Korea on May 15th at a price of 899,800 won, or around $735 USD. There's no official word on when the Velvet will make its way to other parts of the globe, but there's definitely a chance it'll do so at some point.
Many of the LG Velvet's features and design aspects have been revealed in the last few weeks, both from LG itself trickling out details and from the rumor mill leaking info. Still, it's good to see the LG Velvet finally get its full reveal, and we're looking forward to trying one out and seeing what else LG has in store for this new product roadmap.
