Google isn't the only one releasing new beta software today, because Apple is now rolling out new beta releases for iOS and watchOS.
First up, the iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 beta 4 updates are now available to developers (via MacRumors). As usual, if you're a developer you can grab this update over the air or by pointing your computer's web browser to the Apple Developer Center.
The updates to iOS 13.5 and iPadOS 13.5 include the coronavirus exposure notification API made by Apple and Google. With it, public health authorities can make apps that allow consumers to report that they've tested positively for COVID-19 and then using contact tracing and this API, other people who may have come into contact with this person can be notified.
Also included in iOS 13.5 is a tweak to Face ID that'll more quickly skip face unlock if you're wearing a mask. Normally if you're wearing a mask, Face ID will try and fail a couple of times before allowing you to unlock using a passcode. Apple is tweaking this so that Face ID will more quickly allow you to enter your passcode.
Other notable tweaks of iOS 13.5 include an Automatic Prominence setting that'll let you disable the Group FaceTime feature that automatically enlarges the tile of the person speaking. You can also easily share Apple Music songs to Instagram Stories, complete with album art, song title, and artist.
Apple released watchOS 6.2.5 beta four to developers today, as noted by MacRumors. There haven't been any major new features found in this update yet, suggesting that it may be focused on under-the-hood bug fixes and performance improvements.
