When it comes to Apple news, the new iPhone SE has been dominating the news lately. That's changing today, though, because there's some new information about Apple's next flagship smartphone.
The design for what's said to be the iPhone 12 Pro Max has purportedly leaked out. Shared by Max Weinbach and EverythingApplePro, this design is based off a CAD design and came from a source who "works with accessories". It's said that this CAD was made in January, so there could still be small design changes between this leak and the final iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Looking at the design, it's clearly inspired by Apple's recent iPad Pro models. This iPhone 12 Pro Max has flat sides rather than rounded sides like the iPhone 11 Pro, and the glass on the back and front is said to be flat as well. The antenna bands on the side are slightly larger here to add 5G support, and it's said that Apple has lowered the buttons on the sides to make them easier to reach.
That's because this iPhone 12 Pro Max is slightly taller and wider. This device will reportedly have a 6.7-inch display, up from the 6.5-inch screen on the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but its bezels are said to be 0.9mm thinner than the current big screen iPhone. The notch is expected to get smaller on this year's model, too.
Around back, the camera bump is expected to protrude a bit more on the iPhone 12 Pro Max than it does on the iPhone 11 Pro Max, but the camera lenses don't stick out as much as they do on the current phones. Another big change with the rear cameras is the addition of a LIDAR sensor like on the 2020 iPad Pro, giving the phone a total of four rear sensors.
Today's report also says that the SIM tray on this new iPhone has been moved to the other side of the phone from the iPhone 11 Pro Max. That's to accommodate what may be a Smart Connector, similar to what's on the iPad Pro for connecting accessories.
The new iPhone 12 Pro Max purportedly has better speakers that are 10-15% improved and have better dynamic range. The Lightning report is expected to stick around with this device, meaning no USB-C and no totally portless phone, either.
Finally, it's said that Apple is a new Navy Blue color for the iPhone 12 Pro Max that could replace the Midnight Green color of the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max.
Apple has had the same design for its flagship iPhone models for a few years now, using curved sides, a full-screen display, and a large notch. It makes sense that the company would move to a new iPhone design soon, and it's already got a new look with the iPad Pro so we could definitely see this design coming to a new iPhone. It's reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and 5 designs, and it could prove to be pretty popular for Apple.
These new iPhone models are expected to arrive in the fall with a 6.7-inch screen, two 6.1-inch displays, and a 5.4-inch screen.
