Following a rumor that claimed that Apple is working on a new iPad Pro keyboard accessory with a trackpad, a new report says that iOS 14 will bring with it much-improved mouse cursor support.
The update to iOS 14 will reportedly include system-wide support for mouse cursors. According to 9to5Mac, the update will have "most" of the cursor features found from macOS, including support for multiple pointers depending on what you're hovering over. For example, the cursor may change to a hand when you're on a link.
One difference with cursors on iOS 14 is that the pointer will reportedly disappear after a few seconds of inactivity. That's likely due to the fact that iOS and the iPad are touch-focused. Just move the cursor and it should appear again.
Also rumored to be coming with iOS 14 is a "tap to click" setting that suggests that the rumored iPad keyboard with trackpad will be able to depress in some way. Apple is reportedly working on macOS-like gestures for the trackpad, too, like tapping with two fingers to right-click.
Apple added support for mice in iPadOS/iOS 13, but it's buried in the Accessibility section of the Settings app. It's not fully-featured mousing support for the iPad, but it's a start. With iOS 14, Apple is apparently working to give the iPad more macOS-like mousing support, which could help make the iPad an even better device for getting work done for some people.
