We've seen lots of major events canceled due to coronavirus concerns lately, including Mobile World Congress. Now another big conference has gotten the axe.

Google confirmed today that it's canceling I/O 2020, which was scheduled to take place May 12-14 in Mountain View, CA. The company is sending emails to attendees to explain the situation to them.

"Due to concerns around the coronavirus (COVID-19), and in accordance with health guidance from the CDC, WHO, and other health authorities, we have decided to cancel the physical Google I/O event at Shoreline Amphitheatre," Google explains.

Anyone who has purchased a ticket to I/O 2020 will get a full refund by March 13th. Additionally, anyone who has already registered for I/O 2020 will not need to enter the drawing for tickets next year and will be automatically granted the option to buy an I/O 2021 ticket.

"Over the coming weeks, we will explore other ways to evolve Google I/O to best connect with our developer community," Google says.

This news is disappointing because I/O is a big event for fans of Android and other Google products. While it is a developer conference, I/O is typically where we can early looks at some of the new features and products that Google is working on. Google could still make online announcements, but we'll just have to wait and see how the company handles this.
