With around a week to go before the Galaxy S20 series launches, Samsung has pledged to improve the camera performance of its new flagships.
Samsung issued a statement today saying that it's "constantly working to optimize performance" for its customers and that it's "working on a future update to improve the camera experience" of the Galaxy S20.
Here's Samsung's full statement to The Verge:
"The Galaxy S20 features a groundbreaking, advanced camera system. We are constantly working to optimize performance to deliver the best experience for consumers. As part of this ongoing effort, we are working on a future update to improve the camera experience."
This statement was issued in response to early reviews that complained of focus issues. Input says that the Galaxy S20 Ultra has autofocus problems with both photos and video, while PCMag ran into focus pulsing that could last long enough to lose a photo opportunity. The Verge reports that it, too, has had problems with autofocus as well as "aggressive image processing" in some instances.
These complaints could be worrying for anyone who has already pre-ordered a Galaxy S20 series phone or was planning on buying one at launch. Samsung's Galaxy flagships are typically known for having solid camera performance and these are the company's newest flagship models, so lots of folks were probably expecting the cameras to be strong.
It's good to hear that Samsung is listening to early feedback and working to improve the performance of the Galaxy S20's cameras. Hopefully the update comes out before March 6th so early adopters don't have to deal with these autofocus issues, too.
