Huawei MatePad Pro gets 5G and reverse wireless charging

Alongside its updated foldable smartphone, Huawei is taking the wraps off of a new 5G Android tablet today.

The Huawei MatePad Pro 5G features a design and spec list that's similar to the MatePad Pro that was announced late last year, but with the notable addition of 5G. The octa-core Kirin 990 SoC inside the MatePad Pro 5G uses a 7nm process that integrates the 5G modem into the SoC.

Another notable feature of the MatePad Pro 5G is its reverse wireless charging support. In fact, Huawei claims that this is the world's first tablet with dual way wireless charging. The MatePad Pro 5G itself supports up to 27W wireless fast charging, and you can place a smartphone or other device with wireless charging on the back of the tablet for up to 7.5W wireless charging.

Most of the other specs of this 5G MatePad Pro are similar to the non-cellular model that debuted late last year. There's a 10.8-inch 2560x1600 display with a hole-punch in the upper-left corner where the 8MP selfie cam lives, and around back is a 13MP camera for all your tablet photography needs.

Inside, the MatePad Pro 5G is powered by a combination of 8GB of RAM and a 7250mAh battery. There are 256GB and 512GB storage options, too. Also of note is that Huawei has molded the cellular and Wi-Fi antennas of the MatePad Pro 5G directly onto the frame, giving you a cleaner look on the tablet's backside.

As with the non-cellular MatePad Pro, Huawei will offer a physical keyboard accessory for the 5G tablet as well as its M Pencil stylus that you can charge by magnetically attaching it to the top of the tablet's frame.

Huawei isn't saying exactly when the MatePad Pro 5G will launch, but when it does, pricing will start at €799 EUR ($865 USD). The Wi-Fi-only model will be expanding outside of China starting in April at a price of €549 EUR ($549 USD) for a model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

If you're interested in those accessories for the MatePad Pro, too, you can expect the keyboard attachment to cost €129 EUR ($140 USD) while the M Pencil will set you back €99 EUR ($107 USD).
