Aside from those renders that surfaced last year, the Pixel 4a has so far avoided being the subject of any huge leaks. That's not changing today — though if past Pixel phones are any indication, it will change at some point — but we are getting another Pixel 4a tidbit now.

"Sunfish" is a possible Pixel 4a codename that we learned about last month, and now we know that it does indeed belong to Google's upcoming Pixel 4a phone. XDA-Developers found code that links the "sunfish" codename to tha P4a, which also confirms what processor that phone will have.

The previous Pixel 4a leak indicated that the "sunfish" will be powered by the Snapdragon 730, which means that the Pixel 4a will include that chipset. That also means that the Pixel 4a will not support 5G.

We're also aware of the codenames "redfin" and "bramble" that could be related to the Pixel 4a series, and it's expected that one or both devices will be powered by the Snapdragon 765 that does include 5G support. So it's still possible that at least one Pixel 4a model will offer 5G connectivity.

The Pixel 3a  and 3a XL were both positioned as affordable, mid-range alternatives to the Pixel 3 and 3 XL. The Pixel 3a and 3a XL included the Snapdragon 670 processor rather than the Snapdragon 845 in the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, and so it's no surprise that at least one Pixel 4a will have a Snapdragon 730.

Last year we saw Google announce the Pixel 3a and 3a XL on the first day of Google I/O, and so we could see a similar announcement timing this year for the Pixel 4a and 4a XL. Google I/O 2020 is happening May 12-14, but given the history of Pixel leaks in the past, we're sure to hear more about the Pixel 4a and 4a XL before I/O gets underway.
