Do you own a Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR? If so, there's some news that you should be aware of.
Apple today launched a Smart Battery Case replacement program for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR models (via MacRumors). Apple says that some of these Smart Battery Cases may have charging issues and that affected models will not charge or will charge intermittently when plugged in or that the case will have issues charging the iPhone it's connected to.
The company goes on to say that this is not a safety issue, so if you've got one of these Smart Battery Case models, you don't have to worry about it doing harm while it's charging or anything like that.
Smart Battery Cases affected by this issue were manufactured between January 2019 and October 2019. If you have an eligible Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS, XS Max, or XR that's experiencing this problem, you can visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider and get a replacement battery case for free.
The whole point of the Smart Battery Case is to recharge your iPhone while you're on the go, so these models that having problems charging themselves or the iPhone they're connected to is obviously an issue. The good news here is that anyone with a faulty unit can get a free replacement for their Smart Battery Case that is, at most, just one year old.
