Fans of smaller smartphones haven't had much to get excited about lately as the typical screen size of phones continues to grow, but the upcoming iPhone SE 2 may finally give those folks a small alternative to the big screen smartphone trend.
New renders claim to show the iPhone SE 2, which is expected to have a 4.7-inch display and a design similar to the iPhone 8. The CAD-based renders from OnLeaks and iGeeksBlog suggest that the iPhone SE 2 will have a frosted glass back and centered Apple logo, similar to the iPhone 11 Pro.
This iPhone SE 2 has a Touch ID fingerprint reader and large bezels, just like the iPhone 8 that launched in 2017. There's a single rear camera, too, though it could be an upgrade from the 12MP camera found on the iPhone 8. Also expected to be upgraded on this iPhone SE 2 is the processor, which may be an A13 processor like the one found in the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.
Today's report suggests that the in addition to sharing the iPhone 8's design, the iPhone SE 2 could be similar in size to that device, too. The iPhone SE 2 reportedly measures 138.5 x 67.4 x 7.8mm, which is similar in length and width but slightly thicker than the iPhone 8 that measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm.
Past rumors have suggested that the iPhone SE 2 could launch as soon as Q1 2020 at a price of $399. That's the same price that the original iPhone SE launched with in 2016.
While this iPhone SE 2's 4.7-inch screen would be a good bit larger than the 4-inch display found on the iPhone SE, it would still be considerably smaller than most other smartphones on the market. Even Apple is all about big screens, with 5.8-inch display on the iPhone 11 Pro being the smallest screen in Apple's trio of new iPhone 11 smartphones.
If the rumors of a $399 price are true, this iPhone SE 2 could also be an affordable way for consumers to get an iPhone with Apple's latest A13 processor. While this iPhone SE 2 may not stand up to Apple's newest iPhones 11 with their multi-rear camera setups and edge-to-edge screens, it should still offer great performance for years to come with that A13 chipset.
