After months of delays, the Huawei Mate X has finally launched.
Huawei's foldable Mate X was released in China today and reportedly sold out online minutes later. The good news for anyone who want a Mate X but missed out is that Huawei appears to be planning another Mate X drop in China for November 17th.
Pricing for the Huawei Mate X is set at 16,999 yuan ($2,425 USD). Buyers of the Mate X will also get 50% off screen repairs if anything happens to their foldable display.
There's no word on when Huawei might release the Mate X in other parts of the globe, but the company has told The Verge that its global launch plans are currently "under review." Huawei is still dealing with the U.S. export ban that prevents it from including Google apps on new phones, which could make the Mate X a tough sell in many places outside of China.
The Huawei Mate X was first announced way back in February and was supposed to launch in the middle of the year, but it was delayed a couple of times, reportedly because Huawei wanted to be more "cautious" following the display issues that Samsung's Galaxy Fold had. Because foldables are still so young and because the Mate X has a different design than other foldable phones on the market, it's good to see Huawei's phone finally launch, even if it is kind of pricey.
