Pixel 4 supports fast wireless charging with third-party Qi chargers

Last year Google launched the Pixel Stand, a wireless charger that offers some nice benefits for Pixel 3 owners. Perhaps the most notable was 10W fast wireless charging, which means you can wirelessly charge your Pixel 3 at twice the speed than other wireless chargers. That could be frustrating to folks who don't want to drop $79 on the Pixel Stand to get speedier wireless charging, but Google appears to have removed that restriction with the Pixel 4.

It's been discovered that the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL support up to 11W wireless charging speeds. Google hasn't made any official announcements about this feature, but it was discovered by XDA-Developers' Mishaal Rahman, who found the evidence in the Wireless Power Consortium's entries for the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL. This feature was then confirmed by How-To Geek's Justin Duino.

This news is notable because it means that you should be able to get faster wireless charging speeds with your Pixel 4 from third-party wireless chargers, not just Google's Pixel 4. The Pixel Stand is a nice-looking wireless charging stand that offers some nice features for Pixel owners, but it's also more expensive than many third-party wireless chargers. And while the 11W wireless charging speed isn't quite as fast as some other Android devices out there, it's better than the 5W charging that the Pixel 3 got with third-party wireless chargers.
