Samsung announced a beta for Android 10 with its One UI 2 update this week, and some Galaxy S10 owners are already running it.
The update to One UI 2 with Android 10 brings with it several changes. The folks at PhoneArena note that Google's Android 10 gesture navigation system is now included, letting you swipe from the left or right side to go back or swipe up from the bottom to go home. Samsung has also added two new ways to enable one-handed mode: either double-tapping the Home button or swiping down in the center of the screen.
Samsung has added enhanced security to the Galaxy S10 with this update, too, as well as Android 10's Smart Reply feature that'll suggest actions in response to incoming messages, like launching into Google Maps with an address from a message you got. The Device Care section in Settings has been redesigned with a cleaner look, and the battery usage stats are now easier to read.
Other small touches include an update to the volume sliders that shrinks the window to take up less space and adds updated icons that make it easier to see what they are at a glance. Wireless Powershare has gained a battery limit that'll let you set a level at which Wireless Powershare will turn off once your phone's battery has been depleted to a set point.
This update also brings a smoother transition between the always-on display and lockscreen; allows you to have an icon for the in-display fingerprint sensor always present, only on the always-on display, or never on; and includes Digital Wellbeing. Samsung has removed Android Beam and preloaded Android Auto, too.
The update to One UI 2 with Android 10 doesn't look like it's going to bring a radical redesign, but that's not a huge surprise since Android 10 isn't a huge redesign and Samsung just launched its new One UI interface one year ago. This update does look like it should bring several smaller improvements to make the Galaxy S10 and other Samsung phones better, though, and so it's definitely still worth looking forward to if you've got a Samsung device.
There's no word yet on when the updates will begin rolling out to everyone, but Samsung is running a One UI 2 with Android 10 beta test for the Galaxy S10, S10+, and S10e in several countries, including South Korea and the U.S. So if you're interested in trying out One UI 2 and Android 10 before the public, watch your Samsung Members app for the beta test registration.
