The updates to Android 10 and iOS 13 both bring system-wide dark modes to Google and Apple's platforms, and so we've seen several companies update their apps with a dark theme in response. Now it looks like Instagram may soon get a dark mode, too.
Android users testing the beta version of the Instagram app have found a dark theme when they enable Android 10's system-wide dark mode. As noted by Android Police, not all Instagram beta testers have the dark mode now, but there are at least some folks seeing a black and gray version of Instagram right now.
Instagram hasn't made any official announcements about adding a dark mode to its app, so it's unclear when or if this dark theme could be released to the general public.
When you enable the dark mode on your phone, it can be frustrating when you open up a third-party app and get blinded by a bright white screen. That's why it's good to see third-party app developers responding to Android 10 and iOS 13's dark modes by adding dark themes to their own apps. And considering how hugely popular Instagram is, it'd be great to see that app get a dark mode to help it blend in with Android and iOS's dark themes.
