Three weeks after announcing that it was killing off its Android widget, Spotify has reversed course.
Spotify announced today that it plans to bring back its Android widget in an upcoming release of its app. The decision appears to have been influenced by the outcry of Android users over the removal of the Spotify widget.
"We value your input and ideas, and wanted to let you know that we have made some improvements to the performance and visuals of the Android Widget," Spotify explained. "We will be reinstating it in an upcoming release on Android."
The Spotify widget gave Android users quick access to play/pause, next track, and previous track controls on their home screen in addition to showing the currently playing song and album artwork. At the time, Spotify said that it "always takes retiring features in Spotify very seriously" and that it was working on "new ways of creating the best experience" for users. The company also told users they could access the same playback controls by swiping down to access the notification panel while Spotify was playing, but it sounds like a lot of Spotify users like having those controls directly on their home screen.
If you're on Android, how often do you use home screen widgets?
