Verizon is stepping up its anti-robocall effort.

Starting today, Verizon is automatically enrolling Android customers in its free Call Filter robocall-blocking service. This means that calls that've been reported as fraudulent will be automatically blocked and forwarded to voicemail, and any calls that are known to be a spam or nuisance call will be labeled as "Potential Spam" when ringing your phone.

This change is thanks to the FCC vote earlier this year that allowed U.S. carriers to block robocalls by default. While many carriers offered a robocall-blocking service before then, including Verizon, that FCC vote enabled carriers to be more proactive in blocking spam and robocalls for their customers.

iOS customers who want robocall-blocking can download Verizon's Call Filter app to enroll in the service for free.
