Google Assistant is regularly learning new tricks to make your life easier, and today it's adding another feature to its arsenal.
Google Assistant can now read and reply to messages from messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Slack. As spotted by Android Police, just say the phrase "Hey Google, read my messages," and it'll read your new messages from those services, including the service that it's from and the name of the sender. It'll then give you the option to reply by typing or dictating.
In order to get this to work, you will need to give notification access to the Google app if you haven't already.
The "Hey Google, read my messages" request previously only worked with SMS texts from Google's Messages app and Hangouts. Services like WhatsApp, Slack, and Telegram are all extremely popular messaging services that a lot of people use entirely in place of SMS, and so it's great to see Google Assistant gain the ability to to read and reply to messages using these other services.
Google hasn't officially announced this feature, so it's not known exactly how widely it's rolling out right now. To see if it's working for you, say, "Hey Google, read my messages". Be sure to let us know if this feature is live for you!
