I recently wrote about the new Nintendo Switch Lite, a brand new gaming console that aims to rely more on the mobile than the home experience. As such, there’s a focus on the games that the Switch has access to, as compared to what’s available on smartphones and tablets. But at the time I was focused more on the console itself, and whether or not folks would be interested in it over their smartphone they have with them all the time.
So, maybe naturally, now I want to find out what you might be playing these days.
There are so many games out there to choose from, filling all different kinds of genres and niches. Whether you like puzzle games, action titles, or just about anything else, the digital app stores on iOS and Android have just about anything you could ask for. It’s pretty awesome.
You just have to ignore the majority of mobile games-focused predatory behaviors, like ridiculous in-app purchases. But once you can get past that, or can find the games that don’t feature this nonsense, then there are a lot of great options.
Just recently, for instance, the developer thatgamecompany just launched its follow-up to the critically- and player-acclaimed title Journey. With Sky: Children of Light, the company shows once again how great they are at building serene experiences and a seamless, albeit not in-your-face, multiplayer experience. I’m looking forward to the title launching on the Apple TV in the (hopefully) near future.
I’ve been sinking some time into that game recently. But I’ve also found my way back to a couple of titles I used to play quite a bit: Marvel’s Contest of Champions and Marvel’s Future Fight. A friend of mine is trying to get me to play something called Empires and Puzzles, but a cursory glance makes me think it’s a time trap with a lot of grinding.
Another honorable mention here is HoPiKo, which is a great title in its own right. And Nintendo just launched Dr. Mario World, and while I haven’t actually started it I do have it on my phone with every intention to start.
So I’m looking for some recommendations if nothing else. I feel like I have a ton of games on my phone, from Godzilla Defense Force to Holedown, but I’d love to hear what you’re playing the most on your phone these days. What’s grabbed your attention? Let me know!
