Lots of folks use their smartphones to stream TV shows and movies, and soon Netflix will launch a service plan that exclusively offers that.
Netflix has confirmed that it will launch a mobile plan in Q3. It'll be available in India at first, where the plan has actually been in testing for several months, but there's no word on when or if it'll expand to more countries. Netflix does say that it will learn more about the plan after its official launch.
In a letter to shareholders, Netflix says that it thinks a mobile-focused plan "will be an effective way to introduce a larger number of people in India to Netflix and to further expand our business in a market where Pay TV ARPU is low (below $5)."
For many people, their smartphone is the main way that they watch videos, and so a mobile plan for Netflix makes sense. With it, Netflix could attract new customers who wouldn't normally sign up for a streaming plan but would be tempted by a mobile-only plan that's presumably cheaper than the regular plan.
Would you sign up for a mobile-only streaming plan from Netflix?
