Nearly three years after its launch, Google Trips is being shut down.
Google has confirmed that it will end support for the Google Trips app on August 5th, 2019. Until that date, you'll be able to use the app as normal, including accessing and emailing your trip reservations and notes.
The Google Trips app is available on Android and iOS, and it aims to keep all of your necessary info for a trip in one place on your phone. That includes flight, hotel, and rental car reservations as well as plans for things to do and food and drink suggestions. For top places around the world, the app offered popular day plans organized on a map to help you find things to do and showed nearby attractions along with their operating hours and reviews from other travelers.
Google Trips also stored all of your trip information offline, which is handy for times when you don't have a good data connection or you don't want to pay for overseas data usage.
It's always disappointing to see an app get shut down because there's always at least one person who uses and enjoys it. With Google Trips, at least we're getting notified of the shutdown a couple months in advance, meaning those folks who do like the app can use it for another fun summer trip or two before it goes away.
