Huawei's gotten a lot of bad news over the past few days, but now the company is getting a bit of a reprieve.

The U.S. Commerce Department has created a temporary general license that scales back the restrictions on Huawei that were imposed on it following President Trump's executive order that was signed last week. This enables Huawei to maintain its existing networks and provide its existing devices with software updates.

The temporary general license will last until August 19th.

This is welcome news for both Huawei and anyone who relies on Huawei's equipment to communicate. For example, internet and phone providers that use Huawei networking equipment can now maintain their services and owners of Huawei phones can get software updates.

Huawei has not issued a statement on this temporary general license.
