Verizon CEO confirms Galaxy Note 10 will support 5G

Some U.S. carriers have teased that they'll have a second 5G Samsung smartphone launching later in 2019, following the release of the Galaxy S10 5G, and many have suspected that that second device will be a 5G version of the Galaxy Note 10. Now that's pretty much been confirmed.

Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg confirmed that his carrier will have a Galaxy Note phone with 5G support this year. During Verizon's Q1 earnings call, Vestberg was asked about upcoming 5G equipment and said that "both the Note and the Galaxy coming this year, we'll both have it 5G." He also said that Verizon will have an LG phone with 5G, which could be the LG V50 ThinQ.

Here's Vestberg's full statement about upcoming 5G hardware:

"So first about when it comes to the ecosystem of handsets, et cetera, I think that, as was alluded during our Investor Day, we see a majority of the handsets coming out next year having the millimeter wave spectrum. Many of the phones, as already I've talked about, meaning the Samsung phone, both the Note and the Galaxy coming this year, we'll both have it 5G. We have the Moto already. We're going to see also an LG phone coming out."

Considering that Samsung already has a Galaxy S10 5G and some carriers have teased a second 5G Samsung smartphone that's coming later in 2019, it's not a huge surprise to hear that the next Galaxy Note will include 5G support. It's nice to get confirmation from Verizon's CEO so early, though, and so now Note fans that might've been thinking about jumping on the Galaxy S10 5G know that they'll have the option of a 5G Galaxy Note 10 later this year.
