Wishing that you could get more battery life from your iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR? Apple may soon be able to help you with that.
A new report claims that Apple is prepping a new Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS. The folks at 9to5Mac dug into iOS and found references for three different models of battery case: A2070, A2071, and A2171. Additionally, an image has been discovered that shows an Apple Smart Battery Case with a vertical rear camera arrangement like the one on the iPhone XS.
What's notable about the leaked image of the new Apple Smart Battery Case is that the battery hump appears to be larger than the one on the old Smart Battery Case for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. On those models, the battery hump was in the middle of the case's rear, leaving a chin at the bottom. On this leaked iPhone XS model, though, the battery hump appears to extend all the way to the bottom of the case, suggesting it could have a larger battery inside.
Today's report says that there's an identifier in iOS that suggests that Apple is planning to release these new Smart Battery Cases in 2018. There's no word yet on how much they might cost, but Apple's Smart Battery Cases for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 cost $99, so don't be surprised if the new iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR cost at least that much.
The Apple Smart Battery Case features a silicone exterior and a battery, giving your iPhone protection and longer battery life. The iPhone 7 model of the Smart Battery Case included a 2365mAh battery, which was up from the 1877mAh battery in the iPhone 6 model, so it'd be great to see Apple increase the capacity again with these iPhone XS and XR models. It'd also be interesting to see Apple release a Smart Battery Case for the iPhone XS Max because the company hasn't offered a Smart Battery Case for a Plus/Max-sized iPhone before. But hey, I'm sure there are some Plus/Max iPhone owners out there that'd like more battery life, so it'd be nice to see Apple make that available.
