Qualcomm's next flagship Snapdragon processor has been revealed.
The Snapdragon 855 is the next big chipset from Qualcomm, and we'll likely see it in many flagship Android smartphones released in 2019. One of the big draws of the Snapdragon 855 is that it'll support 5G speeds, with Qualcomm touting that it supports multi-gigabit 5G connectivity.
In addition to 5G support, the Snapdragon 855 will offer a performance boost over its predecessor. Qualcomm says that the Snapdragon 855 offers three times better performance than the Snapdragon 845. The company has thrown a 4th gen AI engine into the Snapdragon 855, too, along with a computer vision ISP (image signal processor) for better photography.
While there haven't been any devices announced with the Snapdragon 855 quite yet, that won't be the case for long. Expect to see many flagship Android smartphones released in 2019 with Qualcomm's flagship chipset inside. Before then, though, we expect to learn much more about the Snapdragon 855 and its features in the coming days during Qualcomm's Snapdragon Summit, so stay tuned for more.
Following its Snapdragon 855 reveal, Qualcomm went on to tease a couple other big new pieces of tech that it's got in the pipeline. This includes the 3D Sonic Sensor, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor that will work when your fingers are wet or oily. Qualcomm is also working on Snapdragon Elite Gaming, its effort to take mobile gaming to the next level.
