Google announces Wear OS System Version: H update for smartwatches

There's been lots of big news for Wear OS lately, with the launch of a new Snapdragon Wear 3100 processor and the release of two new smartwatches powered by that new chipset, and now Google has announced a significant new Wear OS update.

An update to Wear OS System Version: H has been revealed. The update includes a handful of improvements, such as a battery saver mode that'll extend your battery life even futher by only displaying the time when your battery falls below 10 percent. Google also touts improved off-body efficiency that'll put your watch into a deep sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity to help conserve battery.

Here are all the changes of Wear OS System Version: H that've been announced by Google:

Battery Saver Mode Updates:

  • This update extends your battery life even further by turning on Battery Saver to only display the time once your battery falls below 10%.

Improved Off Body Efficiency:

  • After 30 minutes of inactivity your watch will go into deep sleep mode to conserve battery.

Smart App Resume for all Apps:

  • You can now easily pick up where you left off across all apps on your watch.

Two Step Power Off:  

  • You can now turn off your watch in two easy steps. To turn off your watch, simply hold the power button until you see the power off screen and then select 'power off' or 'restart'.

This update will be rolling out over the coming months, so it may take a little time for it to hit the watch on your wrist. It sounds like a nice little update, and while it may not have any major new features, it does bring some nice improvements that should make using a Wear OS smartwatch better.
