iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max owners, the YouTube app is getting an update this week to get better for you and your new phones.
Google has updated its YouTube app for iOS to add HDR support for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The feature is included as part of version 13.37 of the YouTube app, which you should be able to grab from the App Store right now.
Once you've updated, find a video that includes HDR — like this one here — and then tap the Quality button and select an option with HDR.
The YouTube app for iOS added HDR support for the iPhone X back in May, but it looks like Google wasn't able to add HDR support for the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in time for the devices' launch last week. The wait for HDR didn't turn out to be long, though, and now iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max owners can enjoy HDR YouTube videos on their phones. The highest resolution video you'll be able to get is 1080p, which is kind of disappointing, but that's due to Apple's lack of support for the VP9 codec.
