Now that Android 9.0 is rolling out to devices, Google has confirmed that it's prepped a Go version of Pie, too.

Android 9 Pie (Go edition) is launching this fall. The update will bring with it several improvements to enhance the Go experience, including up to 500MB of additional storage available, faster device boot times, security features like verified boot, and a dashboard for tracking data consumption.

There's some new Android Go hardware on the way, too, as Google says that more than 100 manufacturers are planning to release Go devices before the end of 2018. There are currently more than 200 Android Go devices available in more than 120 countries.

Finally, Google notes that it's made improvements to several of its Android Go apps in recent months. These include the ability for Google Go to read webpages aloud, navigation in Maps Go, an Android Messages app that's 50 percent smaller in size, and support for caller ID and spam detection in the Phone App. Google also says that Assistant Go supports new languages, including Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese, and Indonesian.

Android Go is Google's attempt at offering a smooth experience on affordable, entry-level devices. The apps are slimmed down to take up less storage, and Google includes a Data Saver feature to monitor your mobile data usage.
