The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T are starting to get a bit long in the tooth, having launched in 2016, but they're still getting major software updates from OnePlus.
OnePlus today confirmed that it will update the OnePlus 3 and 3T to Android P. The two phones will skip the update to Android 8.1 after being updated to Android 8.0 late last year, though, with OnePlus saying that it'd rather focus its development resources on bringing Android P and "more exciting features and improvements" to the OnePlus 3 and 3T.
There's no word on when the Android P update might be released to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. OnePlus does say that it will release Android P for the OnePlus 6 first, followed by the release of Android P for the OnePlus 5 and 5T and then for the OnePlus 3 and 3T, in that order.
It's great to see OnePlus commit to updating the OnePlus 3 and 3T to Android P. While owners of those devices will have to wait until after the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 5/5T are updated before they'll get their taste of Android P, at least they now know that that update is coming. It can be tough to predict which Android phones will get long-term support in the form of multiple OS updates, but that's just what the OnePlus 3 and 3T are getting, and this is a move that's sure to build some more loyalty among OnePlus users.
