After missing out on June 2018, Google today posted a fresh set of Android platform distribution numbers for the month July.
During the 7-day period ending on July 23rd, 12.1 percent of Android devices that accessed the Play Store were running Oreo. That's more than double the 5.7 percent of users that had Oreo in May.
Google's numbers go on to show that Android Nougat usage fell, going from 31.1 percent in May to 30.8 percent in July. Android Marshmallow usage dropped, too, from 25.5 percent in May to 23.5 percent in July. Android Lollipop slipped from 22.4 percent in May to 20.4 percent in July.
Digging into even older desserts, Android KitKat usage dropped from 10.3 percent in May to 9.1 percent in July and Android Jelly Bean fell from 4.3 percent to 3.6 percent. And then there's Android Ice Cream Sandwich and Android Gingerbread, which both fell 0.1 percent to finish at 0.3 percent and 0.2 percent, respectively.
It's exciting to see usage of Android Oreo more than double since the last time Google updated us on it. It is still quite a bit lower than some of the other versions of Android, including the years-old Lollipop, but hopefully we'll continue to see usage growth like this going forward.
