HTC didn't have many details to share about its Exodus blockchain smartphone when it first confirmed the device earlier this year, but today we're getting a few more tidbits about the mysterious device.

The HTC Exodus will launch by the end of 2018, HTC's Phil Chen has revealed to The Verge. Pricing details will be announced by the end of Q3, but Chen did say that the price of the HTC Exodus will be "comparable" to the $1000 Finney, a blockchain-powered phone made by Sirin Labs.

Spec information for the Exodus is light, but we do know that it'll be an Android smartphone that's powered by the blockchain. It'll include a universal wallet and built-in secure hardware enclave as well as support for cryptocurrencies and decentralized applications. HTC has said that it will create a native blockchain network with all Exodus phones acting as nodes for cryptocurrency trading between their owners.

HTC has had a bit of a rough time lately, announcing it will be laying off 1,500 employees and experiencing a 68 percent sales drop last month. While the HTC Exodus is unlikely to suddenly turn the company's fortunes around and be a huge moneymaker, HTC says that if blockchain-powered phones turns out to be the big new thing, then it would be one of the first major smartphone makers to get on the trend, which could be good for the company.
