There are a few different mobile payment services out there, and a new report has come out that's revealed the most popular one.
Starbucks has the most popular mobile payment service in the U.S., according to research firm eMarketer. The coffee company managed to beat out Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay, with the other three services finishing in that order.
It's said by the end of 2018 that 55 million people over the age of 14 will have made an in-store mobile payment, and more than 40 percent of those will have used Starbucks's mobile payment service. Starbucks says that in the quarter that ended on April 1st, its mobile order-and-pay system accounted for 12 percent of all its transactions in the U.S.
Looking ahead, it's expected that Starbucks will continue to have a lead on Apple, Google, and Samsung. eMarketer suggests that early adoption, easy use, and loyal customers attached to its rewards program are to be credited for the popularity of Starbucks's mobile payment service.
Considering how many smartphones are out there, it might be kind of surprising to hear that the mobile order-and-pay system of Starbucks is beating out services from Apple, Google, and Samsung. Starbucks's service is available on every iOS and Android device, though, and the fact that you don't have to be a member of its rewards program to make mobile orders helps make the service easier to use.
