LG has been making smartphones for a very long time, but I recently discovered that there are some people out there who don't know that. I was speaking with someone recently, an acquaintance of a friend, who had just picked up a brand new Galaxy S9. I was curious if they looked at the LG V30, or one of its variants. Not because I was going to recommend it (they told me they buy Samsung only), but purely out of curiosity.

They told me they had never heard of it. So I asked about the G6, or if they've even heard of the G7 (ThinQ). No and no. So after the conversation concluded I was able to glean that basically no one had ever even suggested an LG-branded smartphone to them, and, as far as they knew, the company had stopped making phones many years ago.

I can't blame them, though. Stick with what you know. If you don't have a reason, or desire, to switch away from a particular brand, why even consider it?

I was a little shocked to find all of this out, so it led me down a path of wanting to ask all of you if you've considered buying an LG smartphone recently, any time during the last few years. And if so, did you, and which model did you go with? But that led me down another rabbit hole, because LG recently teased what it calls a "Boombox Speaker" for the G7 ThinQ. This will give the upcoming smartphone some boosted audio quality, if LG's marketing translates to actual real-world results.

While LG isn't the only company that's hanging onto the 3.5mm headphone jack, it's certainly one of the only ones that's going out of its way to not only market the input option, but also give it some worthwhile benefits. The Hi-Fi Quad DAC that LG has been sticking in its phones is pretty fantastic, and definitely a worthwhile feature if you listen to a lot of music on your phone -- and you prefer wired options.

With the inclusion of the Boombox Speaker, the G7 ThinQ sounds like it will be pretty fantastic for audiophiles. On paper, anyway. It might be a different story entirely when the phone actually launches. But, just going with the specs on paper, I wanted to ask all of you if these audio features (and the inclusion of the headphone jack) are reasons why you might consider picking up the Life's Good newest flagship smartphone when they release it.
