Amazon's family of Echo smart speakers is growing again.
The Amazon Echo Dot Kids Edition is now available for pre-order ahead of its May 9 launch. If you're wondering how Amazon would make a Kids Edition of a smart speaker stand out, the retailer has actually added a few notable features.
First up, the Echo Dot Kids Edition includes a colorful case and a two-year worry-free guarantee. That means that if your device breaks for any reason, you can return it and get a new one, no questions asked.
Amazon is also including a one-year FreeTime Unlimited subscription with each Echo Dot Kids Edition purchase. With that subscription, you get access to more than 13,000 kid-friendly books, more than 300 Audible audiobooks, educational apps, games, movies and TV shows. This content comes from brands like Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS, and more.
For parents, Amazon has built an online Parents Dashboard. This tool enables parents to monitor their kids usage of the Echo Dot, set daily time limits, and filter explicit songs from Amazon Music. Voice shopping is turned off on the Echo Dot Kids Edition, which is good news for parents' wallets, and Alexa will even give your kids positive feedback when they ask questions and remember to say "please".
If you've got an existing Echo, Echo Dot, or Echo Plus, you can enable these parental control features starting May 9.
The Echo Dot Kids Edition looks like a pretty interesting device that could be good for kids. While it's a little pricier than a standard Echo Dot, you also get a lot of peace of mind thanks to the protective case, the worry-free guarantee, the disabled voice shopping, and the filtering of explicit music. Plus, it comes with access to educational content that can actually help your kid learn.
