HTC previously said that it plans to launch fewer phones in 2018, and today we get to meet two of the phones that made the cut onto HTC's roster for the year.
The HTC Desire 12 and Desire 12+ are now official. Both phones offer a design similar to what we saw from HTC's U11 phones last year, with a shiny "liquid surface" finish and curved edges.
While the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ may share a similar design, what's inside the two phones differs quite a bit. The HTC Desire 12 features a 5.5-inch 1440x720 display with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 5MP front-facing camera, and 13MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, HDR mode, and phase detection autofocus.
The Desire 12's got a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 processor paired with 2GB/3GB of RAM, 16GB/32GB of storage, and a microSD card slot for adding more srtoage. Dual SIM slots are also included, as are a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microUSB port, and a 2,730mAh battery.
Stepping up to the Desire 12+ will get you a larger 6-inch 1440x720 display with 18:9 aspect ratio, an 8MP front-facing camera with LED flash, and a dual rear camera setup with 13MP and 2MP sensors that can be used to add bokeh-style blurry backgrounds to your photos. There's a rear fingerprint reader on the Desire 12+, too.
Other hardware features of the Android Oreo-powered Desire 12+ include an octa-core Snapdragon 450 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and dual SIM slots. Like, the Desire 12, the Desire 12+ includes 3.5mm and microUSB ports, but it's got a bigger 2,965mAh battery.
HTC isn't talking price or launch dates for the Desire 12 or Desire 12+ quite yet. The HTC Desire family of phones have traditionally been mid-range devices, and the Desire 12 and Desire 12 look like they'll continue that trend, so expect some mid-range pricing. Stay tuned and we'll update you with more details on the Desire 12 and 12+ availability as we get them.
