Android Auto makes it easy for you to use features line music and maps in the car without forcing you to fiddle with your phone, but it can be a pain to plug your phone in every time you get into your car. We're starting to see wireless Android Auto head units that'll change that, including new units from JVC and Kenwood.
There are two new JVC head units, the KW-V940BW and the KW-M845BW, with the former packing a DVD player and the latter lacking it. Both units boast 6.8-inch resistive touchscreens as well as input for a backup camera and a Weblink for JVC app to let you control Waze, YouTube, and Yelp.
Both of JVC's new head units also offer four 50W outputs or three 4V pre-amp outputs. They're Sirius XM-ready for satellite radio fans but can also control Pandora, iHeartRadio, and Spotify if internet streaming is more your thing.
The DVD-equipped KW-V940BW is priced at $699.95 while the KW-M845BW is $599.95 since you're dropping the DVD support.
Meanwhile, there are three new Kenwood head units that also offer wireless Android Auto support. The top-end DNX995S is priced at $1,500 and offers DVD playback and Garmin navigation on a 6.8-inch capacitive HD touchscreen. If you'd like to save some cash, you can get the DDX9905 for $1,100 in exchange for dropping Garmin navigation. And then there's the DMX905S for $805, which ditches the DVD playback as well but gains a bigger 6.95-inch standard def screen for $850.
These Kenwood units also offer two camera inputs; WebLink for controlling Waze, YouTube, and Yelp; Sirius XM satellite radio support; and streaming from Pandora and Spotify.
All of these JVC and Kenwood head units also offer Apple CarPlay support for iOS users.
One detail that's still unknown about all of these units is exactly when they'll launch. Now that we've got the details on their features, and pricing, though, you can pick out which sounds best to you and start saving for it.
