Google Assistant is learning a new trick.
Google Assistant can now identify songs. When you pull up the Google Assistant and there's a song playing, you may see a "What's this song?" button or you can simply ask the assistant that question, and you'll see some bars that show that the assistant is listening.
Once you get your answer, the card will include info like the name of the song and artist, the album art, the year it was released, and the genre. You'll also see links to YouTube, Google Play, and Google Search.
It's kind of strange that it took so long for this feature to appear in Google Assistant, but it's nice to see that it's finally rolling out. As with many Google launches, song identification in Google Assistant is likely rolling out in waves to devices, so if you don't see it on your phone quite yet, that should change in the coming days.
