One of the knocks against Sony’s flagship smartphones is that in recent years, they’ve all had a fairly similar design. That may finally change soon, though.
Kenichiro Hibi, Sony’s India managing director, has teased that his company is prepping a new design for its future smartphones. “We have deployed an omnibalance design as long as the X series continues to be available in the market,” Hibi said to The Indian Express. “Also, we are planning to launch new generation of products and you can expect a complete new design from the devices.”
Details on this new design are pretty light, but Hibi did tease that Sony’s next generation flagship phone is coming “soon.”
Smartphones with super slim bezels is a hot trend in 2017, but Sony’s latest flagships still have rather large bezels above and below their displays. That isn’t helping Sony’s phones as they go up against stiff competition like the Galaxy S8, Note 8, and V30. Moving to an updated design with slim bezels could help make Sony’s phones more attractive to consumers and more competitive in the market, so hopefully this new design that Sony is cooking up will slim down the bezels that we’ve seen on the company’s past flagships.
