Alongside its new Echo and Echo Plus smart speakers and Echo Spot alarm clock, Amazon today introduced a fourth new Echo product that’s a bit different.
The Amazon Echo Connect is an accessory that turns your regular Echo device into a speakerphone for your landline phone. You simply plug your phone line into the Echo Connect and set up the device with the Alexa app on your smartphone. You can then use the Echo Connect with another Echo device to make hands-free calls using your landline phone number.
The Echo Connect works with all current Echo devices, including the Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot, Echo (2nd Gen.), and Echo Plus.
Amazon says that the Echo Connect uses your home phone number, so people that you call using the device will recognize that it’s you.
The Echo Connect is now available for pre-order for $34.99. It’ll launch on December 13th.
Amazon’s Echo Connect is an interesting device. Most people don’t have landline phones anymore, so this product won’t mean anything to them. For those people that like to have a landline for one reason or another, like maybe they’ve got weak cell reception at home, they can now use an Echo device to make hands-free calls using the same home number that everyone already has.
