In the days following the iPhone 8’s launch, some owners are reporting a crackling sound in their earpiece during a call. Today Apple confirmed the issue and its plan to address it.
Apple says that a “small number” of iPhone 8 owners have experienced a crackling sound in their device’s earpiece during a call. Reports of the issue have popped up on internet forums, including Reddit and Apple’s own support forum.
As for what it’s going to do to address the problem, Apple says that it’s working on a fix that’ll be included in a future software update.
Here’s Apple’s full statement to The Verge:
“We are aware of the issue which is affecting customers in a small number of cases. Our team is at work on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming software release.”
You can hear an example of the crackling here. It’s faint, but it sounds like it’s coming from the edges of the phone’s earpiece.
It’s unclear exactly what’s causing the problem, as it seems to be affecting iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus owners around the world. And while phone calls may not be as big as they once were, this is still an annoying issue, especially considering that these are flagship phones that launched less than a week ago.
Now we just have to wait for Apple’s software update with a fix.
