Recent rumors have suggested that Google’s upcoming Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 will be powered by a Snapdragon 836 processor, which hasn’t been officially announced by Qualcomm. And according to a new report, it will never be announced.
Qualcomm has no plans to manufacture a Snapdragon 836 processor, say sources speaking to Android Police and XDA Developers. It’s said that Qualcomm has never had any plans to make a Snapdragon 836 nor does it plan to make any right now.
As for what’ll power the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, it looks like the Snapdragon 835 is the likeliest candidate. The FCC recently spilled some details about the Pixel 2, including the news that it’s got a Snapdragon 835. And since last year’s Pixel and Pixel XL were both equipped with Snapdragon 821 processors, it’s very possible that the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2 will both have Snapdragon 835 processors.
The Snapdragon 835 is Qualcomm’s current flagship processor, powering major handsets like the LG V30, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and HTC U11. And so while it may not be super exciting to see it in the Pixel 2 and Pixel XL 2, the 835 is still a perfectly capable processor that perform well in Google’s new hero phones.
