Good news, T-Mobile customers: The Un-carrier today gave us an update on its 600MHz rollout efforts.
T-Mobile says that it has acquired the licenses for the 600MHz spectrum that it acquired in the auction that wrapped up earlier this year. Now it’s looking forward to beginning testing its 600MHz coverage, with the first sites being ready for testing this summer.
T-Mo’s 600MHz coverage is expected to be available publicly later this year. At that time, T-Mobile says that we’ll begin to see “new 600MHz smartphones from Samsung and other manufacturers” as well. No details on those phones are available, but it’s possible that T-Mo is hinting at the Galaxy Note 8, which is likely going to launch in the latter half of this year.
This 600MHz spectrum will improve coverage for T-Mobile customers, so it’s definitely something worth getting excited about if you’re on T-Mo. The Un-carrier hasn’t detailed which cities will get 600MHz coverage and when they will, but T-Mobile did grab 600MHz spectrum in all 50 states, so a lot of people will get to enjoy the improved coverage that 600MHz will bring.
