ASUS officially announced the ZenFone AR earlier this year, revealing a device that supports both Google’s Daydream VR and Tango AR platforms. There wasn’t much said about the ZenFone AR’s release at the time, but today we’re finally getting some info on that subject.
ASUS has announced that the ZenFone AR will launch at Verizon this summer. In fact, Verizon will be the exclusive US carrier for the ZenFone AR, so you’ll have to be on big red if you want to buy ASUS’s new device from an operator.
Expect pricing and concrete launch date to come at a later date.
Launching on Verizon is big for the ZenFone AR as well as Google’s Daydream and Tango platforms. Verizon is the biggest wireless carrier in the US, and so the ZenFone AR will be in front of a lot of faces when it hits Verizon’s shelves. The phone won’t be for everyone, at least partially because it’s probably not going to be cheap, but the appeal of Daydream VR and Tango AR along with the ZenFone AR’s high-end spec list could draw some customers to the device.
As a refresher, the ZenFone AR runs Android 7.0 on a 5.7-inch 2560x1440 AMOLED display. It’s packing a Snapdragon 821 processor, 6GB of RAM, a microSD slot, 23-megapixel rear and 8-megapixel front cameras, and a 3300mAh battery.
