Tomorrow’s the day that the HTC U11 is expected to make its official debut, but as is usually the case with hyped smartphones, most of the details of the HTC U11 have leaked out ahead of time.
A hands-on video that shows off the HTC U11 in multiple color options has leaked out. The video appears to be from an event and not only shows the hardware of the U11, but also the device’s Edge Sense feature that allows you to perform actions by squeezing the sides of the device. In this clip, the user squeezes the sides of the phone to launch the camera app and then take a photo.
Other features shown off in this video include Google Assistant, a USB Type-C port, and a lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack.
In other HTC U11 news, an alleged spec list for the device has been shared by @OnLeaks. The new HTC flagship is said to run Android 7.1 on a 5.5-inch 2560x1440 Super LCD 5 display, Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM (6GB for China), 64GB of storage, a microSD slot, and a 3000mAh battery. Also rumored to be included is a 12-megapixel UltraPixel 3 rear camera and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera.
Finally, a report from VentureBeat aims to clarify the HTC U11’s Edge Sense functionality. The feature lets you squeeze the sides of the HTC U11 to perform actions, with the phone responding to pressure, but the device doesn’t respond to touch, contrary to what some previous reports suggested.
The HTC U11 is shaping up to be HTC’s new Android flagship release. While the HTC U Ultra is pretty highly-specced, the HTC U11 is expected to have Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 835 processor, which should make it more appealing to spec-focused consumers. Now we just have to wait for the phone to launch so that we can learn how it performs and how much it costs.
