Over the past few years, when Samsung launched a new Galaxy S flagship, it released a ruggedized Galaxy S Active variant to go along with it. It looks like that could be the case again this year.
Samsung is prepping a Galaxy S8 Active with the model number SM-G892A and the codename “Cruiser,” according to SamMobile. Just like past Galaxy S Active phones, it’s expected that the Galaxy S8 Active will be exclusive to AT&T.
It’s unclear how Samsung will make the Galaxy S8 Active different from the standard Galaxy S8, but a more toughened body seems likely. Samsung gave the Galaxy S7 Active a design that included a textured back for more grippiness as well as bumpers on the corners to protect it from drops. Also included was MIL STD-810G certification for resistance to dust, extreme temperatures, salt fog, and more.
In the past, we’ve seen the Galaxy S Active phone launch a couple of months after the standard model, so stay tuned for more details on this Galaxy S8 Active.
