There’s been a lot of talk of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and the placement of its rear fingerprint reader, but according to a new report, GS8 owners may have an even faster way to unlock their phone.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 will include a facial recognition feature, according to a new report. A Samsung official has reportedly said that facial recognition will be included with the GS8 because of its speed over the iris scanner. The full quote from the Samsung official:
“Due to some limits of iris scanning such as speed and accuracy, we have decided to add facial recognition to the Galaxy S8. With a face scanner, it will take less than 0.01 seconds to unlock the phone.”
It’s been rumored that the Galaxy S8 will include an iris scanner like the Galaxy Note 7 before it, but this is the first word we’ve heard of facial recognition. If the GS8’s facial recognition is as fast as this Samsung official reportedly claims, it could be the way to go when it comes to unlocking the GS8, especially with the placement of its fingerprint reader to the right of the rear camera.
