Following Instagram’s launch of Stories last year, Facebook today introduced its own Snapchat-style offering.
Messenger Day is a new feature in Facebook Messenger that lets you share photos and videos that use visual effects like frames and stickers. You can add these images to your day, and your friends will be able to view and reply to it for 24 hours. You can also share images with specific people.
When you’re messaging with someone, you’ll be able to see if they have anything new from their day. You can choose who’s allowed to see your day in the Messenger settings.
Messenger Day is now rolling out globally on Android and iOS.
Snapchat has become an extremely popular app for sharing disappearing photos of your day, so it’s no surprise that other companies are adopting Snapchat-style features for their own apps. With Messenger, Facebook already has one of the most popular chat apps around, and it looks like they figured they’d try baking disappearing photos and videos in there, too. If you’d like to see what Facebook’s interpretation of Snapchat is like, keep an eye on your Messenger app for the new Messenger Day feature.
